The first time I got extensions, only black women had them done, so I had to go to a black salon, and I felt awkward. It was wefts. She put a really low quality European hair onto the braids. After the first shampoo, it matted up severely. Money down the drain, but I was able to unsew them.
As time went on, Remi hair became available, and I got wefts sewn on, but the beautician wasn’t black, and made my braided rows too loose and bumpy. After I took them out myself, I noticed that my scalp had a terrible mildew odor that was tough to clean out.
The third time, a black beautician did them in tight small rows, quality hair, but it looked wiggy and I wasn’t happy with the expensive cut that her coworker gave, and had to thin it out myself at home, first with scissors, then removing a few wefts. I’d suddenly put on 10 pounds from the long heavy hair, and lost it as soon as I un sewed them.
The glue on method (euphemistically called keratin bonding and fusion, didn’t really blend in where my own hair ended with the extensions, and was torture to get removed.
In 2019, I got the microbead method, which was lightweight, blended better, great quality hair, but the beautician did too good of a job with her clamp, told me to go for a tightening in 6 months, so my own hair grew into dreads, and my husband had to use his pliers on most of the ones that I couldn’t remove with a professional tool, and it was very hard for him.
My own hair was next to impossible to de tangle and the back ended up so much shorter than before the weave, so since then, I’ve stuck to wigs and hairpieces when I don’t just wear my own hair by itself.
I’ve always wanted to know if it’s possible to have hair extensions for volume at the crown. If so, that’d be great, but for now, I’ve been black pilled about extensions.
Oh, and the worst for my hair were clip ons…they don’t stay in place, show through and are too thin at the ends, so my own hair shows above them. I also find them time consuming.
Everyone raves about the halo, but that was a huge waste of money and just didn’t help me…long underneath, and my top layers not blending at all.
Is it possible to get natural grey tones & platinum extensions (naturally greying hair that is long)?
I live in Australia, can you buy these online?
Omg I’m the same. My length is fine, I just need the thickness around the crown and sides- especially as I have a thin face, it balances it out! It’s hard to know what to get as there’s lots of choice now. I have to dye my hair black every other week, so keep in hair I just couldn’t do. Something I can take out every night! What would you recommend?! X❤
